Type O Negative was an American gothic metal band formed in Brooklyn, New York in 1989 by bassist and vocalist Peter Steele. Known for their slow, doom-laden sound, dark humour, and Peter Steele's distinctive deep bass voice, their 1996 album October Rust is widely regarded as their masterpiece — a lush, romantic gothic metal record featuring classics like "Love You to Death" and "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend". Peter Steele passed away in 2010.
